WhatsApp: Screenshots are not allowed for these chats

WhatsApp

Users of the messaging app WhatsApp won’t be able to take screenshots of messages that can only be seen once, according to reports. WaBetaInfo has published a report stating that WhatsApp is planning to release an updated version of its view-once photos and videos feature in order to prevent users from taking screenshots of the content they receive. Users are also prevented from capturing their screens when these messages are displayed. Those beta testers who have the newest version of the beta installed on their devices from the Play Store can access the feature. For those who aren’t aware, WaBetaInfo is an internet site that monitors the development of forthcoming additions to WhatsApp.

The View Once feature was added to WhatsApp earlier this year. Users can send photos and videos that disappear from the recipient’s chat as soon as he or she opens it. The feature is meant to give WhatsApp users more privacy. But the whole point is lost if the other person takes a screenshot of the chat.

Users will no longer be able to take screenshots of messages that can only be seen once. If they try to take a screenshot, all they will see is a black screen. Once the feature is turned on, users won’t be able to take a screenshot because of security policy. A toast will appear, but even if some people use third-party extensions to get around the security policy, the image will always be black, according to the report.

However, the recipient can still take screenshots of conversations even if they contain some disappearing messages. This is because the new feature is only limited to view once images and videos, the report adds. One cannot forward, export, save, or view once images and videos. But, the recipient may still take a photo by using a secondary mobile device. Therefore, it is always advisable to practice caution when sending view once messages.

On the other hand, WhatsApp is now releasing its polling feature. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, certain beta users can now make polls within group chats using the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.21.16 version. The report indicates that this capability is not restricted to group admins.
