Superpower with the new macOS Monterey
Apple announced on Monday that macOS Monterey, the company’s latest operating system for Mac computers, will be available on October 25. macOS Monterey 12 includes several changes to provide a more fluid experience when using multiple Apple devices. It has features like SharePlay and Focus, which are also available on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. Furthermore, the macOS update adds Universal Control and AirPlay to Mac, bolstering Apple’s Continuity and providing users with a more unified experience across Apple devices.
Monterey’s features on macOS
Unlike macOS Big Sur, which introduced a significant interface-level upgrade to the Mac world, macOS Monterey focuses on improving user experience through a series of behind-the-scenes changes. It includes Universal Control which allows users to seamlessly multitask between a Mac and an iPad using a single mouse and keyboard. Users can also use the Apple Pencil with the Universal Control feature. It allows the transfer of iPad’s drawing and sketching directly into a Keynote slide on your Mac.
Apple has also made AirPlay available for Mac via macOS Monterey. It allows users to wireless play, present, and share content from their iPhone or iPad to their Mac. With the update, you can also use your Mac’s sound system as an AirPlay speaker.
Quick Notes includes macOS Monterey for an improved productivity experience. Allows taking notes while browsing a website or using an app. Apple has also provided a dedicated Shortcuts Editor for Mac, allowing users to customize shortcuts based on their needs.
The macOS Monterey update also includes a new Safari browser with an entirely new tab design. It also includes Tab Groups, which allow users to save and manage multiple tabs under a single title.
Apple has integrated SharePlay into macOS Monterey, allowing users to share their movies, TV shows, and projects with friends and family via FaceTime.
How to Get macOS Monterey
macOS Monterey will be available for download on Mac devices running macOS Big Sur, such as the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. When the new macOS version releases on October 25, it will automatically reach eligible Mac devices. Users can manually check for updates by going to System Preferences > Software Update after clicking on the Apple menu icon in the upper-left corner of your computer’s screen.
The macOS Monterey release will come pre-installed on the new MacBook Pro (2021) models announced by Apple on Monday at its ‘Unleashed’ event.
