All about Google Drive’s new “Offline” mode

Google Drive Offline Mode

Did you know?

Files on Google Drive will now be available to access anytime, even when you are offline. You do not need to make any changes to your existing Google Drive sync settings, including the default 15-minute auto-sync window.

With Offline Mode, your Google Drive files will be accessible even if you’re not connected to the internet. Whether you’re on a plane or in a remote location accessible only through wifi, you can keep editing and working as if you were online.

Google Drive is a cloud storage platform allowing users to store files on the Google server. This new extension allows users to view and edit their documents while they do not have an Internet connection.

With the Google Drive offline feature, you can keep working on your spreadsheets, docs, peer reviews, and drawings. When you’re disconnected from the internet, any changes that you make are automatically synced with Google Drive when an internet connection is available again.

What exactly does this feature do?

  • Let’s you run and view Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides offline.
  • Allows users to open, edit, and save files stored on Google Drive directly from their browsers.
  • Let’s you save a copy to your hard drive, sync it to your desktop or other devices, and then open the copy while disconnected from the Internet.
  • Helps users to continue working when a network connection isn’t available or when a file is so large that it takes a significant amount of time to upload.
  • Offers new ways for users to view, edit and create Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files directly from their browser.
